Summer Solstice

"And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

Today is the Summer Solstice, marking the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere occurring when Earth arrives at the point in its orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the calendar year. I usually celebrate, by cavorting in nature, with beer & food but this awful weather has stopped play.

I've been up since 4am, so an extra long day for me, and now (as Little O naps) felt like as good a time as any to dust off my keyboard and spend the next thirty minutes writing a journal entry! Hopefully I can keep it up this time, but I'm not going to give myself a hard time for missing the odd week... that's a promise to myself!

Summer is my favourite season, I love to feel the sun on bare skin and It's hard to remember what "being cold" feels like and this helps me to take a break from work and turns my thoughts away from knitting and lambswool for a while. That being said, this time of year is when I have the most energy and can get so much done! The past few weeks we have been slowly moving studios to a larger brighter space to house an additional machine. It will be able to knit with chunkier yarns, I'm thinking about adding a few new heavier weight pieces to the Autumn collection... a boxy jumper, patchwork shawl & patchwork blanket.

The process of moving has been the perfect way of marking the start to my new working life, now balancing it with motherhood (any pieces of advice greatly received!) The move has also been an excuse to indulge in a bit of interior design and buy some new pieces of studio furniture. The space is still looking a bit chaotic as I've just been trying to get everything in position and functioning but styling is the next stage and I look forward to sharing some pictures in a following post! Also, I might share my thoughts and ideas on running a business alongside looking after a babe but I won't go on about it too much because it's really not everybody's cup of tea! *babe wakes up*

Happy Solstice ... the sun is on it's way back, enjoy x
